It is a well known fact that horses naturally spend most of their day grazing, slowly taking in the nutrients they require.

However, in confinement we take away the ability for horses to choose their feed, and instead we supply them with a feed that is not acceptable for human consumption, by-products if you will, that has been over-processed (i.e. made very digestible by cracking, extruding, grinding & pelleting) leaving the vital nutrients damaged or destroyed, leaving it void of good bacteria, and 'live' enzymes.

Synthetic vitamins are added in an effort to compensate for over processing.  Chemical preservatives are added to prolong shelf life.  Molasses is often used as a binding agent for foods that have been over-processed and also for making low-quality ingredients more palletable.
